The Lion’s Heart “year” is May 1st through April 30th. We accept all teenagers that wish to perform community service, subject to available space in the group. There is no application, just an information form. We expect Members to follow a few simple rules. Failure to follow the rules, missing too many meetings (you may not miss more than 3 out of the 8 meetings), or not performing at least 30 hours of community service by April 30th will result in ineligibility to continue in Lion’s Heart.

Groups are organized by grade level and gender (we identify the groups by the year of high school graduation). There are no co-ed groups. There is one Class Coordinator (a parent) to supervise each group. Groups organize and calendar their own meetings. Most groups meet at a Member’s home on a monthly basis on a Sunday – either late afternoon or early evening. The meetings usually last less than one hour. Many groups do not hold meetings in the summer, although Members may perform community service on their own.

Dues: New Member’s dues are $100 payable with a credit card when you enroll online. Returning dues are currently $45 payable with cash or check at the first meeting of each new year. There is no pro-ration of dues for new Members starting after May 1st. If you enroll and there is no space in a group for 90 days (starting on May 1st), you have the choice to stay on the wait list or receive a refund.

6th graders starting in May: Interested boys and girls that are in 6th grade and wish to become a Member are accepted on a first come-first serve basis until the group is full at 20 members. No requests for a specific group are accepted. A second group may be formed if a second Class Coordinator is available. New Members will be contacted in late April with information about their group. The first meeting will be held in May.

New Members in existing groups: New Members may start any time after May 1st, and requests for a specific group are taken for existing groups, pending availability.

Enrollment period: New Members may enrollment from February 1st at 12:01 A.M. through midnight on August 1st. Members enrolling prior to May 1st will start membership on May 1st (pending space) and new Members enrolling after May 1st will start immediately, pending availability in a group. There is no pro-ration of dues or hours for Members starting after May 1st.
